Warm Sunny Saturday

Victoria was very busy today!  It was the annual Tweed Ride ...
Tweed Ride assembling at the Empress

Then the Victoria Highland Games parade went by ...
With bagpipes and everything!

But we wanted to ride on the E and N railway path, so we headed across the blue bridge on our bicycles to Esquimalt to see what we could see.  We found Westbay Marine Village - home to the Princess Mary Restaurant, some lovely houseboats and a great view of the inner harbour and James Bay.

E&N railway trail

We had the trail all to ourselves with the exception of 2 people walking dogs.  Go figure?

On our ride back to downtown, we found a lovely little public garden with some unusual tulips still in bloom.  Then Peter spotted a rocky hill with an oak grove across the way, saw there was a road up the hill, and off we went exploring!

The shade of the graveyard was
a welcome break to the sunshine today.

At the top of the hill was Gorge Vale Golf Club and the entrance to an old military graveyard in between two holes.  It was a very peaceful place with an old wooden chapel, and all the gravestones all neatly lined up, some dating back to the 1870's.

That ride concluded back at our house for lunch in the park, followed by grocery shopping at all our favourite haunts.  Since the sun was still shining and it was lovely and warm outside, we packed a picnic, got back on our bikes and headed down to Ogden Point for dinner 'al fresco.'  Such a wonderful way to end a wonderful day!  Cheers everyone!
