News Flash: We received patent pending approval for our "Dual Dose Portable Injection Apparatus" this week. Very exciting!
What does this mean, you ask. Bob, Rob, Judith and I have been busy this fall developing a new product around an innovative plunger concept Bob dreamed up. The unit is intended to delivery various pre-measured drugs when appropriate. One example would be to deliver the drug Epinephrine to someone suffering from an allergic reaction say from nuts or a wasp sting. One of the many other benefits is the unit is a lot smaller than the product currently available and hopefully this will result in children or anyone to be more inclined to carry such a device on their person at all times as it would easily attach to a zipper pull, and will be extremely durable and waterproof.
The next step is to either raise private equity to take the widget through the FDA approval process and then market it ourselves, and/or "out license" the product to a drug company (which we have already located a willing party). Or find an existing company to partner with bringing the product to market using their financial resources (example: Becton, Dickinson). Please spread the word, if anyone you know could offer some value to such a worthy venture we would love to hear from them!

Duct Tape
This years holiday theme was duct tape. No really... Our main man Ekim of the Dead Rear "Red Deer" Snikles obviously spent his spare time creating what I would say may be some of the best hand made gifts we have ever encountered, well after his sister Ylime's painting that is.
In the above photo "Grampa" Knarf Snikle is sporting a multi colour firefighters helmet, which will be all the bucket head rage in 2008. Htiduj Snikle is wearing a very stylish apron, that is a must for any BBQ challenge. That Mike has a real future in industrial design and engineering at GUTZ. What's next, maybe a boat?

Sweet Thursday
Often, people ask us how we fare socially on our little island. So here is a couple "Sweet Thursday Event" pictures to give you an idea of a typical night on the "rock" This specific event being Christmas week was traditional island potluck with all the trimmings. Followed by a lively sing song around the piano. "Sweet Thursday" is a long standing tradition hosted by the Athletic Association. It's pub theme held every second week. FYI, we have no full time restaurant open through the winter months so it's a real treat for both the young families and elders to have a visit with friends and have someone else do the cooking.

Life after 2 o'clock
Around 2 each day the cold (well cold by west coast standards, actually more damp than cold) sets in , and the fire becomes the highest priority when Judith arrives home after the long and sometimes adventurous commute from the office.
Here she is photographed gathering carbon neutral fuel, you will notice she is in her trend setting executive outfit (skirt, boots) You will also notice the wellie foot wear. Which by the way is all the rage with the "in crowd" executives on the west coast.

You may be wondering who this little fella is. Well that is Rufus. He is a little shy in the trick department, only three so far. Pooping being his number one skill, followed by eating things that he shouldn't, like Judith's flowers and apples, and third, sleeping all day!

And on that holiday note did you know that I will be 40 this year. Yup on the 23rd you can shower me with well wishes, and pat me on the back while you try to convince me it only gets better. FYI, Check out this practical mid-life crisis motor vehicle.

So as you can see we are extremely busy and getting loads done between dinner parties at Amanda and what's his names and that other thing. "Judith what do you call that thing you do between 10 and 2"? O right, ya that's it "work".

The 20 hour work week
"Mommy when I grow up I want to be like Aunt Judith"
"Mommy what does Aunt Judith do?"
Inquiring minds want to know, so let's ask her loyal assistant Peter and see what he can tell us.
Peter says: "That is a good question, let me provide you some highlights of what a busy executive like Mrs. Elkins does in a typical day."
Judith starts getting ready for work around 10:00 am. Sometimes it is extremely hard for me to figure out where she is coming from that early in the morning. In some cases I have to travel great distances to reach her. This is a picture of Judith when I finally reached her. She was getting ready for a short commute out of the void.
This is Judith at her desk, what she likes to refer to as the 'hot zone'. Don't let the sand fool you, it is actually a well designed work environment that she personally developed to help attract and retain top talent like me. Judith is a real forward thinker when it comes to workplace design and keeping me from going to the competition.
Judith never makes me do things she wouldn't do herself. This is her disciplining me for not keeping the flame burning hot enough. As you can see she is a leading expert on beach logging, just one of the many talents she has at keeping the home fires going.
This is a morning meeting Judith attends with her senior adviser, Jane. As you can see Judith is a sharp dresser. If my memory serves me, this was the day Jane was complimenting Judith on her remarkable style, and Judith gave her a big thank you!
Here is Judith hosting some out of town guests before the end of the workday, she sure can pack it in between 10 and 2, eh! As you can see she sometimes lets me come along to meetings. I think it is because I carry her skis, and she says it is good for her image to have "arm candy" (whatever that is?). Either way she is a good boss to let me come to "meetings of the minds".
Well, that's it kids. Aunt Judith is what is commonly referred to as a leader of leisure, captain of industry, head cheese, the big boss. etc., etc. A busy 10 to 2 executive by any standard.

Lawyer Joke
On their way to get married, a young Catholic couple is involved in a fatal car accident. The couple find themselves sitting outside the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter to process them into Heaven.
While waiting, they begin to wonder: Could they possibly get married in Heaven? When St. Peter showed up, they asked him.
St. Peter says, 'I don't know. This is the first time anyone has asked. Let me go find out', and he leaves.
The couple sat and waited, and waited. Two months passed and the couple is still waiting. As they waited, they discussed that IF they were allowed to get married in Heaven, what was the eternal aspect of it all.
What if it doesn't work?' they wondered, 'Are we stuck together FOREVER?'
After yet another month, St. Peter finally returns, looking somewhat bedraggled. 'Yes,' he informs the couple, 'You CAN get married in Heaven.'
'Great!' said the couple, 'But we were just wondering, what if things don't workout? Could we also get a divorce in Heaven?'
St. Peter, red-faced with anger, slams his clipboard onto the ground.
'What's wrong?' asked the frightened couple.
'OH, COME ON!' shouts St. Peter. 'It took me three months to find a priest up here! Do you have ANY idea how long it'll take me to find a LAWYER?'

First Snow
Proof that it snows at sea level west of the Rocky Mountains! Yes folks that is the real white stuff coming down. It may be the only day this year so we take it very seriously here on Hornby. To the point where our phone has been ringing all day for the status of the toboggan hill, which happens to be our street. Hopefully Judith will whip up some of her delicious cocoa for the cold toboggan enthusiasts after a hard day/night of sliding.

Walking on the Ford Cove Trail
Greetings, This is our first entry into our new Blog.
We were inspired by another Blog and thought we could do something similar to keep our family and friends up to date on our adventures.
This is a photo of us on the Ford Cove Trail in front of the waterfall, taken the other weekend while walking with our friend Amanda after a significant storm came through that knocked out our power for a couple days and brought down a few trees.
