Christmas Eve and Morning

At Christmas Eve last year, we were treated to Rachelle's famous Tortiere Pie so this year I was determined to serve it at home. Luckily, she shared her recipe and since I'd discovered a great recipe for wheat-free pastry, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. We even made the Chili Sauce to go with it (recipe courtesy of Doug's mother Marilyn). Then for dessert (and a nice balance to the meat course) we enjoyed mouth-watering Clementine Tarts with Clementine Ginger Cream on top of Citrus Macaroon Cookies . Conclusion: all of these recipes are fantastic and definitely keepers.

Then, once we made sure the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, we all bedded down for a good winter's sleep.

Sure enough, Christmas morning finally arrived. The good news was that Santa did find our new home, and the bad news was it had not snowed overnight! I mean, really, what's Christmas without a little of the white stuff??

Anyway, we dug into our stockings (candy canes and all) and quickly worked our way through the pile of gifts under the tree.

And before you knew it, it was time to eat some Christmas morning breakfast ... exotic fresh fruit salad with Peter's famous slow scrambled eggs, and your choice of Hertel's bacon or sausage. A feast fit for el-Kins! Then back to the living room mayhem, coffee in hand to sit down to take a really close look at our bounty before stuffing the turkey and taking a quiet nap before dinner!

Well, that's it for Christmas 2010. Must be off to ring in the New Year ...

I wonder what's in stock for next year? Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.
